#1 - Client Case Study - Westmead - January 2018 to March 2021

1. THE CLIENTS

  • The clients were busy doctors with a growing family and a parent living at home.

  • They had commissioned a project home to be built and needed help with finishing it so they could live comfortably.

  • They seemed to be leaders within their cultural community and needed a place to welcome their friends and celebrate.

2. IT BEGAN WITH THE CURTAINS...

Work started with the curtains, however, the breadth of these clients requirements kept expanding to other design & project management tasks over time.

  • Fit-out of robes, design & fabrication

  • Design & fabrication of family shoe rack - garage

  • Design advice & coordination with builder of room alterations

  • Design of bar unit - family room

  • Design & construction of console - TV room

  • Fit-out of the Prayer room with exterior tiles including design & project management

4. THE ROBES FITOUT...

  • This included design, format, dimensions and surface finishes - obtaining quotations from 3 joiners and fabrication.

  • Design & fabrication of family shoe rack-garage.

  • In 5 of the robes, we converted the hanging rail and shelf to fitted carcass units in melamine colours of shelf towers and drawers to provide useable storage and organised hanging.

  • In the main bedroom's walk-in robe we completed the look with doors, bulkhead and scotia cornice so that the walk through robe space was well finished.

  • The Project Management role involved obtaining quotes, briefing builders on the scope of works and liaising with the clients.

3. THE WINDOW COVERINGS...

  • Window covering were required for 6 bedrooms, the front reception room, 2 large living areas as well as kitchen and bathrooms.

  • All the bedrooms had sheer curtains for privacy and decorative face fabric with the main bedroom fitted out with decorative sheer fabric and white block out micro-dimmer behind.

  • In the rear kitchen and living room area, we used sheer fabric only in curtains with lined roman blinds where practical.

  • Ripple fold curtains in the family space were designed in 'Erosion-Oxide', creating warmth to the large, hard-surfaced areas.

  • Full length double roman blinds in the kitchen unified the look.

  • Decorative face roller blinds were provided for the powder room, bedroom ensuite and main bathroom.

  • In the living areas, custom made roman blinds in designer face fabric with specially selected linings were designed for function, elegance and colour to personalise each room.

5. FAMILY & TV ROOM JOINERY...

  • Design advice was provided on alterations to the study and Home Theatre rooms to demolish the dividing wall and make one space. They were too small for their originally intended uses.

  • The design of a bar unit in the full height niche adjacent to the kitchen gave space for cooling drinks, storage of glassware and general household display.

  • Some 11 months later the client contacted me for a console design for their TV /family room. They also needed help with some other alterations.

  • We designed the unit below to coordinate with finishes from the bar unit and the size of the TV.

  • This accommodated the IT consoles as well as being designed around their existing ornaments and niches.
